SPD officers were able to talk down an emotionally unstable, suicidal man on Monday night. On 4/24/17 at approx. 6 p.m. SPD officers responded to the 600 block of W South St for a report of a suicidal subject. Officers were able to make contact with a 39 year old male inside of the residence who was threatening to do harm to himself and refusing to come out. No one else was inside of the home. As a precaution, after initially being unable to talk the man down, SPD’s Special Tactics and Response (STAR) team responded to the area with assistance from City of Dover Police’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT). Officers continued talking to the man and at approximately 8 p.m. he exited the home unarmed and was taken into protective custody peacefully. He was then transported to Kent General Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. The subjects name and photo will be withheld as he is not being charged with any crimes.
